Patterns from the Past

The future is laced with patterns from the past.
We are the reflections of those who came before us,
the product of their hopes, dreams and determination.
The women in the painting are my husband's great-grandmother Anna
and grandmother Charlotte holding her first-born son.
Anna was widowed early in her marriage.
At sixteen, Charlotte was told with her heart condition
she should not expect to live long or have children.
She told the doctors they were wrong
and proceeded to bear 10 children and live to 84.
Heritage is both a gift and an obligation.
